However, like L-shaped stairs, a center support is necessary to support winder stairs, which can make installation more expensive and complex. The odd-shaped triangle steps can also be more challenging to navigate for some users than a flat landing. These “long stairs” extend directly from one level of a home to the next without any turns or direction changes. Construction is relatively straightforward, making them a more affordable choice. Vacuuming these stairs can also be easier, since you don’t need to worry about making any turns with the hose. We hope our staircase ideas have filled you with inspiration and proven that even the most affordable staircase options have the potential to become a stunning feature in your home.

Keeping the plan simple can create some stylish and striking results, as this contemporary glass and timber unit shows. Utilising a simple pine staircase is a cost-effective option but they're also fantastic as they offer the chance to be customised for a more bespoke feel. They can either be painted, have the right types of carpet fitted or, as here, have a contemporary stair runner up the centre. A staircase is the perfect spot to experiment with different internal cladding ideas.

At the same time, because most measures are accompanied by minimums or maximums, staircase code measurements allow for considerable flexibility. You can widen the steps as much as you want as long as the three-foot width criteria is met. When upgrading or building a home, critical measures such as standard stairway width, riser height, and tread depth are not left to chance.

Fashion designer Liz Lange sought to preserve a lot of the original details of Grey Gardens in her restoration of the historic East Hamptons property. In the foyer, she restored the staircase's banister and railing before calling in Jonathan Adler to infuse the space with daring style. Wood stairs provide character and style when getting from floor to floor, and they're often an upgrade from carpeted stairs.

Building these stairs combined the skills of various artisans who work with wood, metal, and drywall. This shapely staircase gently widens as it meets the grand foyer, creating a smooth transition between levels. Decorative molding applied to the walls throughout the foyer blends well with the dramatic look of the staircase.

The traditional overhead light is often not possible either because there is another staircase above or the ceiling is too high. If you are looking for a way to flood the entire staircase with light, install a fixture on the wall of the stairway landing. Make sure it is bright enough to extend up to the top or bottom of the stairs.

Take a look below for the very best trends, styles and structures — with a few tips from the experts to get you on your way. The best granite for stairs depends on several factors, including the intended use, location, and personal preferences. For indoor stairs, polished granite with a smooth finish is popular, as it offers a sleek and elegant look that complements various interior styles. For outdoor stairs or areas with high foot traffic, durable granite with a textured or honed finish may be preferable, providing better traction and slip resistance. This customer renovated their existing staircase by installing an oak and embedded glass balustrade, which completely opened up the area under the stairs.

Architect Eric J. Smith and designer Steven Gambrel aimed to reinvigorate the home's Art Deco roots in their redesign of this 1920s New Jersey estate. In the stairwell, an elegant arched window is flanked by Lourdes Sanchez’s Dots (left) and color lithographs from Le Corbusier’s Le Poème de l’angle droi pay homage to the home's origins. If a bold pattern like leopard print isn't quite your speed, there's no need to avoid a runner completely.

“Bifurcated stairs start with a wider, single flight at the bottom, which then splits into two narrower flights at a landing. This design can be breathtaking but requires substantial space and budget, making it suitable mostly for larger, high-end projects,” Hintlian notes. This particular design showcases the deliberate combination of contrasting colors to achieve a delicate balance between warm and moody effects. It's also necessary to mention that lighting has played an important role in making the space look extra special. While this design might seem regular at first glance, the minimalist and industrial appeal of the mesh railing gives it a modern touch.

The staircase in your home—we know it serves as a functional piece, getting you from one floor to the other, but it can do a whole lot more for your home's design. It's oftentimes the first thing people see when they first walk into your home, so it should not only be functional but should also contribute to your home's overall design style. Thanks to the open and spacious construction of the staircase, the free flow of this space is evident from the moment guests step inside the front door.

Generally, granite stair treads, the horizontal surfaces you step on, are typically around 1.25 to 1.5 inches thick. However, this thickness can be adjusted based on the intended use and available structural support. Spiral staircases wind up from one level to a hole cut through the floor above. Each step is attached to a vertical support beam that runs between the two levels. Spiral staircases can be used between floors in a home, but they are also used in tighter spaces, such as for accessing a building’s roof.

Bockus Payne used maroon-colored stringers to suspend wooden treads in this modern stairwell. Glass panes with an attached metal railing keep the focus on the colors and materials. A mural in subtle shades of green, blue, and tan decorates this stairwell by J. One serving comes out to 190 calories, 7 g fat, 2.5 g saturated fat, 29 g carbohydrates, 3 g protein, and 240 mg sodium. Grabbing a quick dinner at Waffle House but don't want anything too heavy? Choose a side of Bert's Chili, which is only 150 calories before toppings are added. We recommend adding onions, tomatoes, and jalapenos on top, as they add freshness to your meal. Plus, the beans in the chili are a good source of protein to help keep you fuller longer. When you first think of a chicken biscuit, what comes to mind?

The toast came pre-buttered and with a packet of apple butter, which was a nice pop of flavor. Although the waffle is supposed to be the star at Waffle House, the cinnamon-swirl toast was definitely the highlight of my meal. Anyone with severe food allergies might want to avoid Waffle House, as the restaurant can't guarantee that its cooking environment is free from any specific allergen. People with strict food allergies should be aware of any cross-contamination. With its diner-like environment, Waffle House is also a favored joint for late-night hangover eats, such as hamburgers and non-stop cups of coffee and Coca-Cola beverages.

A colorful plate is often considered to be the marker of a healthy meal, and that's certainly not what you're getting here. The T-bone comes with a pile of hash browns and some bread on the side, so it's not exactly what you would call healthy. While a T-bone is generally a good cut of meat, the way they cook it here is really hit or miss. If you have someone on the grill who knows what they're doing, it might be good. But more often than not, the workers have so many other things going on that they're not going to be paying super-close attention to your steak in particular.

Luckily, there are still options to be had at the famed joint (even if you don't want to eat enough carbs to fuel an army in one sitting). Check out 10 of the healthiest things you can order at Waffle House to stay on track. Luckily, Waffle House knows what it's doing when it comes to biscuits and gravy. The gravy from this place is unbelievably thick, and it presents the perfect counterpart to the carb-heavy biscuit. When you order this dish, keep in mind that you're only going to get one biscuit.

Fight turns fatal outside of Waffle House near Ohio State campus

In the future, I'd add toppings such as chocolate chips or pecans to the waffle or onions and jalapeños to my hash browns for more flavor. Because Waffle House is named after its most popular food, you will not be surprised that the majority of menu items contain a high number of carbs, calories, and sugar. Anyone watching their carb intake, staying away from gluten, or avoiding added sugar will struggle to find menu items to eat. If you'd like a beverage with a bit of flavor, order Alice's unsweet iced tea. The hashbrown bowls include a large order of hashbrowns, along with a protein of your choice, two scrambled eggs, and two slices of American cheese. If you leave out any of these ingredients, you can reduce the dish's total calories. When you order the All-Star Special, you'll start off with a waffle of your choice (of course, we would have to choose the chocolate chip option). Then, you add in a plate of protein — you can choose between sausage or bacon. Finally, add in the main breakfast plate that boasts eggs, toast, and a side of your choice.

Next time I see a waffle house in any of its nationwide locations, I'll definitely be pulling over for a bite.

Walking into the restaurant, I noticed the red, yellow, black, and gray color scheme. There were stools set up for counter seating along with booths for those who prefer a table. I pulled off the road into the parking lot and looked forward to a totally average, if not subpar, meal.

The ubiquitous Waffle House—home of Sunday brunches, late-night eats, and family gatherings around stacks of breakfast foods—is a popular American restaurant. Set up reminiscent of a diner, this establishment remains an icon in the country for its famous waffles and popular carb-loaded entrees for all-day breakfast. Essentially, you'll get additional vitamins and minerals with wheat or whole grain that you may not get with traditional white bread. Interestingly, the wheat bread served at Waffle House even has a little protein to offer (8 grams), which adds to the 12 grams of protein you'll get from the two eggs. The Quarter-Pounder Angus Burger from Waffle House has 570 calories and comes with onions, lettuce, and tomatoes (no cheese). If you add a side, we suggest getting grits, as they're traditionally a good source of iron.

Egg Breakfast

If you're like many people, you'll think of a chain like Chick-fil-A that pairs its perfectly breaded chicken with a buttery, flakey bun that you can't help but fall in love with. Those types of chicken biscuits have the ability to turn your whole morning around and set you up for an excellent day. But if you're expecting the same thing when you order the chicken biscuit at Waffle House, then you're almost certainly going to be disappointed. I ordered the standard breakfast for the taste test at Waffle House, and I wasn't disappointed.

The cheesesteak option has 650 calories, 40 g fat, 17 g saturated fat, 42 g carbohydrates, 28 g protein, and 1,400 mg sodium. The Texas melts on the Waffle House menu are grilled cheese and meat sandwiches served on Texas toast. All of the options contain a meat so there is no vegetarian choice here, but you can choose the most nutritious protein for you depending on flavor and preference. The sausage, egg, & cheese biscuit has 650 calories, 48 g fat, 22 g saturated fat, 35 g carbs, 2 g sugar, 19 g protein, and 1,470 mg sodium.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A fight involving up to 20 people turned fatal after one person was shot outside of a restaurant near Ohio State University early Monday morning. The best thing about waffles is that you can go crazy on the toppings. Whether you’re a fan of sweet or savory, waffles are the perfect vessel for toppings. Mix either a teaspoon of lemon juice or white vinegar to whole milk as a substitute. Leftover waffles can be wrapped up and stored in the fridge for at least a day. Also, storing them in the freezer will keep them good for up to 3 months.

breakfast waffle house

Rather than order a large entrée, you can choose a few Waffle House breakfast sides to make a meal when you're not exceptionally hungry. Additionally, eggs aren't just good sources of protein — they're also chock-full of micronutrients, which are vitamins and minerals that have an impact on brain and body function. An example of a micronutrient would be iron, which is present in eggs (along with things like zinc and phosphorus). Waffle House's garden salad has a mixture of both romaine and iceberg lettuce, so you'll certainly be hydrated. According to Medical News Today, although these types of greens aren't considered nutritionally dense, they do have a high water content, which is still beneficial. Although this isn't what you may picture when you think of Waffle House, the Grilled Chicken Sandwich is a great option for lunch or dinner.

That being said, this obviously isn’t the only way to prepare waffles. You might want to go in a different direction with authentic Belgian waffles. You also may want to take a more health-conscious approach with easy protein waffles. Finally, there is always the ambitious route to waffle making with almond flour waffles.

And while it's still about as basic as can be (you're not getting your hash browns "capped", or covered in mushrooms, after all), it does add something special to your meal. Waffles on their own are a great breakfast, but they can also go well with any other breakfast food. For instance, there’s nothing wrong with waffles and a side of microwave bacon.

In order to make this meal a bit healthier, we recommend swapping out the Texas toast for wheat, and the hashbrowns for grits. With these adjustments, this meal is just 575 calories but is still a good amount of food. If you're not at Waffle House for breakfast, it can be difficult to decide what to order. That's what we asked ourselves when we first tried the Texas grilled chicken melt. It's one of many "melts" you'll find on the Waffle House menu, and it's ... This sandwich is made of toasted bread, grilled chicken, and a slice of American cheese.

Soil moisture key

Exposure, aspect, and slope were noted; water flow, erosion, and ponding were observed; the quality and composition of existing plants and stream banks were studied, and evidence of deer pressure documented. The amount of mown lawn was noted, as was erosion along the stream edge and the general lack of outdoor space for the residents to use in a meaningful way. The landscape offered very little biodiversity, seasonal interest, or views to enjoy the natural features of the pond, woodland, and stream. The key to managing pests in a native plant landscape is to foster a balanced ecosystem. Native plants, such as the slender mountain mint, are known for their pest-repellent properties. Their strong scent can naturally deter unwanted insects while also attracting beneficial pollinators to your garden.

CREATING YOUR OWN

The pandemic revealed the importance of healthy outdoor spaces close to where and how we live. Our design practice focuses on making positive places for people while building resilient landscapes for today’s climate impacts and ecosystem health. If you only have access to a small outdoor space, you can still be a native plant gardener. If you have access to a large parcel of land, you can contribute to the health and well-being of the larger community. Creating a native plant garden will provide food and habitat for native insects and birds, improve stormwater management, clean the air, and overall provide beauty and joy. The majority of land in the United States is in private hands.

Garden Natives

It doesn't take a genius to design a natural garden; however, some planning beforehand might be wise. Native plant communities are essential for supporting pollinators, who are having a rough time with the tragic trifecta of habitat destruction, pesticide use, and climate change. Native plants also provide food and habitat for wildlife, reduce erosion and improve soil, mitigate flooding, sequester carbon, filter water, and more. The positive feedback we received after releasing these resources made it clear we needed to continue growing the Native Garden Design program as an effective way to fulfill Wild Ones’ mission. There’s been a lot of buzz in recent years about growing native plants.

Native Landscape Plans

Instead, it is more accurate to describe it as a native species undergoing a range change. Native and non-native can also be defined in a certain period, but this can be difficult to determine precisely with the movement of plants, animals, and changing landscapes. Artfully blend formal and wild with these garden design ideas from Hollister House in Connecticut. Hermanson is a booster for woody herbs like sage, rosemary, and the aforementioned thyme if you’re new to gardening or really busy. “They can really take a beating, can do full sun or part shade, and don’t need to be watered as regularly as the soft-leaved herbs,” she says.

Priority 1: Woodland Restoration and Invasive Plant Management

Without host plants to feed their caterpillars, butterflies can’t complete their lifecycle and their populations suffer. Any species of milkweed, which is the sole host plant for the iconic Monarch butterfly. Whorled milkweed, for example, can occupy the space invasive plants like butterfly bush might otherwise take over, and its attractive flowers will bring additional beauty and ecological benefits to your garden.

Restoring nature, one garden at a time

The following practices apply to plantings where some degree of control is desired. That is, these design elements will help produce a garden that looks as though it was thoughtfully designed and planned as opposed to a naturalistic meadow or recreated prairie where plants grow more randomly. Value is generated by providing diverse amenity spaces and returns the landscape to a healthy plant palette that serves the human inhabitants and the full ecosystem. Site hydrology, invasive plant management, and deer pressure were essential considerations at this location that guided decision-making. Plant selection was driven by fitting the right plant to soil and light conditions, resistance to deer damage, and the highest yield in ecosystem function. To begin the design process, the designers started with a site inventory and analysis.

Although Hollister House is a private residence, the garden is open to visitors several days a week during spring. A stairway can be transformed into a design feature instead of something that merely gets you from one level to the next. At Hollister House, steps made of local granite slabs are placed randomly and softened by yellow-leaved dwarf spirea and violets that have seeded in the cracks. A water feature such as a bird bath or small fountain can also attract birds and insects.

“Herb gardens offer a delightful connection to nature,” says Amy Hovis, owner of Eden Garden Design and Barton Springs Nursery, in Austin. Plus they’re highly practical, providing an array of versatile flavors for both sweet and savory dishes. You could even save money in the long-run by growing your own herbs versus buying overpriced bunches at the grocery-shop. Since different insects have different tongues, for long-tongue insects try milkweed and wild bergamot, and for short-tongue insects plant sunflowers. For seeds, try native grasses like switchgrass and little blue stem or plants like ox eye sunflowers or coneflowers, often called echinacea.

We specialize in garden landscape designs that reflect the natural beauty of California, conserve precious natural resources and link the urban landscape closer to nature. Our focus is ecology-based landscaping with the use of California native plants, carbon-neutral products and water conservation techniques, all of which help build beautiful, sustainable gardens. In the world of landscape gardening, the term native plants refers to species that have evolved naturally in an area. These are the flora that have co-evolved with local wildlife and are the foundation of their habitats. Native plant landscaping is the practice of designing and maintaining gardens that primarily include these indigenous species. Once flowering bulbs and other plants begin to fade, the intense shades of foliage color create a stunning display.

This has been very consistentwhether the garden, restoration, or landscape is in Mojave, LosAngeles, San Diego, Bakersfield, San Luis Obispo, the Sierras orthe Bay area. At the time, I didn’t know much at all about the plants that were there. I was just happy to have a yard after living in apartments and condos for the previous 10 years. After a few years of trying to maintain it though, I realized that the area needed to be reigned in.

Perron family reaches out to spirits at 'Conjuring' house in RI

There are at least 45 sequels to Stuart Rosenberg’s 1979 horror drama about a family under siege by supernatural forces inside their home in suburban Amityville, Long Island. That’s more than the “Star Wars,” “Fast and Furious” and “X-Men” franchises combined. There are some amazing scares, the same eerie and creepy plot, and again, the fabulous acting from both Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, except this time we get to travel all the way across the world. I feel like that added aspect really makes this film tick because it’s like we know that this sort of haunting could happen anywhere, and still create horrible rippling effects on families' lives.

Though the movies seem over-dramatized and impossible to believe, the Warrens maintain that all of the events depicted actually transpired. Though Ed died in 2006, Lorraine was a consultant on the film and claims that she didn’t let the directors take any more dramatic license than was necessary. Their two most famous cases, however, were heavily popularized by the Conjuring franchise, a series of movies that focuses on Ed and Lorraine’s experiences exercising demons from two possessed families. It’s true that there’s a payoff relative to your effort, since watching a functioning village come to life is enormously satisfying. But Manor Lords is not necessarily a game for players new to the city-building genre. With its gorgeous, hazy vistas of fields and woodlands that look like John Constable paintings, Manor Lords also seems more like a bucolic game about peasant life than a game about the political and military machinations of the nobility.

"For whatever reason I was hearing brass clustering as an early response to the material, a quiet shimmering flutter tongue effect, and it grew from there", said Bishara on his creative process. Around 20 to 30 minutes of footage was removed from the first cut of the film, which initially ran at about two hours in duration. After positive test screenings, the final edit of the film was locked in December 2012 and awaited its summer release. In preparation for their roles, Farmiga and Wilson traveled to Connecticut to spend time with Lorraine Warren, who also visited the set during production.

DeRosa-Grund reconnected with New Line Cinema, who had lost in the original bidding war but who ultimately picked up the film. On November 11, 2009, a deal was made between New Line and DeRosa-Grund's Evergreen Media Group. Development of the film began in January 2012, and reports confirmed Wan as the director of a film entitled The Warren Files, later retitled The Conjuring. Production commenced in Wilmington, North Carolina, in February 2012, and scenes were shot in chronological order.

The real house from 'The Conjuring' is in Rhode Island – but here's the true story

For Warner Bros., The Conjuring surpassed the debut weekend of the distributor's big-budget film Pacific Rim, which had opened to $37.3 million the weekend prior. While horror films usually drop at least 50% in their second weekend, The Conjuring only dropped 47%, taking in $22.2 million and placing in second behind new release The Wolverine. After its run in theaters, the film was officially named a box office hit, grossing over fifteen times its production budget with a worldwide total of $318 million. Calculating in all production and promotional expenses, Deadline Hollywood estimated that the film made a total profit of $161.7 million. “The Conjuring,” which is based on the Perron family’s experiences, was released in 2013 and became one of the most successful horror movies of all time.

However, she somehow awakens the evil within the room and sets its sights on their daughter, and her babysitter, and her friend, torturing them. Annabelle was the first spin-off of The Conjuring due to how popular it became, and to be honest, it’s one of the worst. Like The Curse of La Llorona, the scares aren’t the best and the story could have been better expanded on, especially for a doll that is so well-known in the horror community now. But that’s why its successors are higher on this list – because those dive into the story, as we’ll see. Whether you come to HuffPost for updates on the 2024 presidential race, hard-hitting investigations into critical issues facing our country today, or trending stories that make you laugh, we appreciate you.

Malevolent spirit alarm system.

Then, one day, the iron fireplace in an upstairs bedroom was ripped out of the wall. After that, paranormal investigators from all around the world showed up, claiming to be able to contact spirits, and wanting to know more about the Enfield haunting. In 1952, Ed and Lorraine founded the New England Society for Psychic Research, the oldest ghost hunting group in New England.

The adrenaline rushed through my veins as I once again developed full-body chills and quickly pulled both of my feet under the covers. My boyfriend felt we’d had enough excitement for the night and suggested we go to bed. I was surprised by how quickly he fell asleep considering what just happened to me.

The true story of The Conjuring begins with the first film which focuses on the Perron family. Most viewers assumed that the movie was nothing but the wild imaginings of director James Wan. However, the true story of The Conjuring is actually rooted in a horrifying true experience of Ed and Lorraine Warren. The kids were imprisoned in a true “House of Horrors.” They were routinely physically, verbally, and mentally abused, chained to their beds, and deprived of food and the ability to exercise. As the details of what the Turpin children survived were shared with the public, many began to wonder how two parents could be so horrible to their own children. Fewer than 10 films make up the legit “Amityville Horror” canon, and even that number is up for debate.

In North America, the film opened on July 19, 2013, and was projected to gross $30–$35 million from 2,903 theaters in its opening weekend. The film earned $3.3 million from its Thursday night showings and $17 million on its first day. The film went on to gross $41.9 million in its opening weekend, landing in first place and breaking The Purges record as the biggest opening for an original R-rated horror film.

What the Warrens discover is way worse than anything they had imagined. This requires them to muster up all their skills and spiritual strength to overcome the sinister forces that threaten to destroy anyone involved. The first promotional images were released in November 2012, introducing Farmiga and Wilson as Ed and Lorraine Warren. A teaser trailer, previously shown at the 2012 New York Comic Con, kicked off the film's marketing campaign in February 2013. Throughout the campaign, the film was promoted heavily as "based on a true story." In the weeks leading up to the film's release, trailers and TV spots began to feature the real-life Perron family. This was followed by a featurette titled The Devil's Hour in which Lorraine Warren and other paranormal investigators explain some of the supernatural occurrences seen in the film.

She has investigated several places throughout the New England area with exposure to various equipment and techniques for paranormal investigations. They were also involved in the investigation of the infamous Amityville Horror House in Long Island, New York. The story of this "haunted" house was also eventually turned into a famous film following the alleged paranormal experiences of the Lutz family, who had moved into the home about a year after Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered his family inside it.

During the process of researching the house's history, the Warrens discover that the house belonged to an accused witch, Bathsheba Sherman. When Bathsheba's husband caught her sacrificing their week-old infant, she climbed to the top of a tree on the property, cursed all those who would take her land, and proclaimed her love for Satan before committing suicide. This is followed by finding reports of numerous murders and suicides in houses that have since been built upon the property. She said different members of the family had different experiences living in the house, which is why only Nancy and her father joined her this weekend.

Inside 'The Conjuring' House That Inspired The Famous Horror Series

The Warrens then explain how the doll was never really possessed, and was a conduit for a demonic spirit that manipulated Debbie and Camilla so that it could eventually take over one of their bodies. Details and booking of experiences are done through the website of The Conjuring House, theconjuringhouse.com. After the movie came out in 2013 the place became haunted by trespassers who sought out the newly famous house. The Burrillville farmhouse house was built in the 1730s, with parts of it having a second floor. Hopefully, the Conjuring house in Rhode Island will never again provide source material for the filmmakers. Soon enough, we’re going to see our favorite ghost-hunting couple in action again soon, as a 4th Conjuring movie is officially in the works.

The time’s come to play, here in my garden of shadows.

After reading about the real story behind The Conjuring, check out the shocking murders behind the Amityville horror house and Robert the Doll, a haunted doll that Ed and Lorraine Warren would have loved. This is where the story differs from the movie as there was no exorcism-like practice from the Warrens. In 1979, two years after they began, the hauntings abruptly stopped, though the family maintains they did nothing to stop them.

The True Story Of The Conjuring: The Perron Family And Enfield Haunting

Producer Tony DeRosa-Grund wrote the original treatment and titled the project The Conjuring. For nearly 14 years, he tried to get the movie made without any success. He landed a deal to make the movie at Gold Circle Films, the production company behind The Haunting in Connecticut, but a contract could not be finalized and the deal was dropped. "I'll let the universe decide whether this is our last visit to the farmhouse," she said. Even though the family left when Andrea was 21, she has always felt drawn to what she refers to as "the farmhouse." Andrea said they heard from a number of spirits through a "spirit box," sort of a high-powered radio receiver that occasionally renders white-noise static and intelligible words.

(Perhaps Slavic Magic risks accidentally romanticizing the horrors of feudalism in the process, but that’s an argument I’ll have to leave to somebody much more educated than me.) But don’t mistake it for a chill, cozy game. Manor Lords is very, very complex, and the early access version is somewhat lacking in informative tutorial pop-ups and tooltips to guide you through it. Here’s another detail, one that has more to do with the core gameplay. At first, this is just a house with a yard, but once it has been leveled up, the yard can be developed as a sort of small-business venue for the residents, even if they’re employed elsewhere at the farm, the mill, or the storehouse.

Ed and Lorraine Warren were minor characters in real life

"I always got along with the spirits right from the start," she said. "I had moments of fear because I saw what was happening to my mom and to my family." All left the house, except for Nancy, who persuaded the neighbors who bought the house to let her stay. "She wanted to go home," Andrea, who now lives in Florida, said of her mother, "and home for her was Georgia."

The demonic witch Bathsheba Sherman at the center of the movie is only loosely based on a real person

It turns out there was actually a real person named Bathsheba Sherman who lived on the Perrons property in the mid-1800s. She was rumored to have been a Satanist, and there was evidence that she had been involved in the death of a neighbor’s child, though no trial ever took place. She was buried in a nearby Baptist cemetery in downtown Harrisville. Nevertheless, the true story of The Conjuring remains almost unbelievably chilling to this day.

Is 'The Conjuring' based on a true story?

From the Arnold Family it transferred to the Butterworths and then to the Kenyons before being purchased by the Perrons in the 1970s. In 1980, the Schwartz family purchased the property and sold it to Norma Sutcliffe in 1987. Cory and Jen Heinzen purchased the property in 2019 from Norma Sutcliffe and launched the business to allow investigations and day tours. In May of 2022, Jacqueline Nuñez purchased the property and is continuing and growing the business. The house as it now stands was completed in 1736, forty years before the signing of The Declaration of Independence. This magnificent homestead has survived countless storms, King Philips War, The Revolutionary War, The Civil War, and the unbridled growth of the Industrial Age in America. Eight generations of one extended family had lived and died in it and apparently some of them never left or visit it with some frequency.

"This purchase is personal for me. It's not a real estate development. It's around my own beliefs." The Lutzes have, over the years, been called frauds and accused of fabricating the story of their experience in the Amityville home for profit. Though Ed Warren died in 2006 and never got to see The Conjuring unfold on the silver screen, Lorraine served as a consultant on the film and continued to work as a paranormal investigator up until her death in 2019. Go inside The Conjuring house in the photo gallery below — and then learn more about the disturbing history behind the centuries-old home.

The most outspoken of the Turpin siblings, Jordan has been focused on healing from her horrific experiences with both her parents and foster parents. She moved into a new home in 2023 with her four guinea pigs and four dogs. In November, she opened up to PEOPLE about her past year and hopes for the future.

When they listed the house for sale in September 2021, they said they wanted to meet with prospective buyers, hoping to find someone with similar interests who would keep the paranormal business going. The mother of the family, Carolyn Perron, reportedly researched the home and learned that it had once belonged to the same family for eight generations. Chillingly, many children in this family had purportedly died in or near the house under strange and disturbing circumstances. According to Carolyn's research, some of the children drowned in a nearby creek, others hanged themselves in the attic, and at least one was murdered. Shortly after the Perron family — a couple named Carolyn and Roger and their five daughters — moved into the home, they noticed eerie things happening inside. At first, a broom would move from place to place on its own, and small piles of dirt would appear on freshly cleaned floors.

I sensed that it was now coming from the very attic space where I believed I contacted the spirit of a little boy. Suddenly, I felt something lightly double tap the top of my left foot. This was followed by an audible child’s laugh coming from the closet.

The right shoes can make an outfit and make you comfortable. It is no surprise, then, that canvas shoes have become ubiquitous staples of both contemporary- and vintage-inspired wardrobes. Nizza is a line of throwback designs based on old-school basketball shoes from the 1980s. Merging the past with the present, it features a clean canvas and thick sole that is as durable as it is stylish. Pair it with your favorite sweatsuit, or dress it up with jeans and a crew neck tee.

Best Canvas Shoes For Men With Effortless Style 2024

They’re one of the many types of shoes that every guy needs to own. Relying on product descriptions alone can be misleading, as they often tend to overstate the comfort and durability resultant from specific features. The canvas shoes are often stylistically ambiguous — complementing a variety of fashions — and also support and ventilate your feet.

The Adidas Daily 3.0 makes this list because it takes all that we love about classic Adidas designs and turns into an easy-to-wear canvas sneaker. It borrows heavily from Stan Smith, the classic white leather shoe, but turns it into a more streamlined package. The classic version of the shoes comes in grey, black, or white. But you can also pick up a pair in bright blue or red for when you want to stand out. Canvas shoes with laces can be most easily modified to accommodate replaceable insoles. Though the colors are unlikely to bleed much or frequently, you should expect that lighter colors may become dingy and darker colors may fade.

The shoes take what we love about high-top Chuck Taylors but slims the design down—making them perfect for skinny jeans—and adds an instantly worn-in look to the shoe. A cool feature of these shoes is the laces, which have a high sheen that reflects the light in a unique way. When talking about the best canvas shoes, you can’t look past Converse Chuck Taylor All Star. The design is an absolute classic and has been for decades.

Abbreviations and Acronyms Technical Writing

abbreviation of design

They bridge the gap between traditional architectural practices and the digital age, ensuring that the essence of design communication remains intact even in the most technologically advanced scenarios. BIM, represented by software like Revit and ArchiCAD, goes beyond mere design and drafting. It incorporates multi-dimensional aspects of a building, from design and construction to management and demolition. In this digital realm, abbreviations play a pivotal role in ensuring efficient design workflows, accurate communication, and reduced file sizes. Given the meticulous nature of the design process and the various iterations of drawings, it is vital for us as architects to communicate our ideas clearly and concisely. This necessity has led to the widespread use of abbreviations in architectural documents and drawings, making them a critical part of the lexicon for architects, designers, and builders.

What Is a Color Palette?

Why would you undertake a deep study of engineering design, or the design process, when you could go about design on your own and learn from your own experience? There is value to be gained from studying design, and I want to add my own take on why studying design is an important complement to hands-on experience. This article presents an idea that has high influenced my way of thinking about design. The article is centered on ideation and focuses primarily on how to do it well. It introduces the concept of design space, design exploration, and the trade off curve. Below is a handy list of what that engineering acronym or abbreviation means.

Beer Badge Emblem Logo (AI, EPS, JPG, PDF, PNG, PSD)

These symbols may include shapes and lines, numbers, and abbreviations. In these next few sections, we’ll look at ten of the most common floor plan symbols and how they’re used. Abbreviations (the shortened form of a word or phrase) and acronyms (words formed from the initial letters of a phrase) are commonly used in technical writing. In some fields, including chemistry, medicine, computer science, and geographic information systems, acronyms are used so frequently that the reader can feel lost in an alphabet soup. However, the proper use of these devices enhances the reading process, fostering fluid readability and efficient comprehension. This abbreviation can be found in interior decorating plan documents, engineering, architecture, art, or in relation to fashion.

What Is a Raster Image?

In order to create hierarchy, you need to have contrast in your design. If one image is larger than the other, this will place the emphasis on the larger image, and the reader will look at it first. Some style manuals devote entire chapters to the subject of abbreviations and acronyms, and your college library no doubt contains volumes that you can consult when needed.

English Vocabulary Flashcards

Cropping refers to eliminating unnecessary parts of an image. By doing this, you’ll change entirely the direction, emphasis, and even composition of an image. Cropping improves the framing of an image to fit your project.

Certain placenames may use particular contractions (see § Special considerations, below). This format was developed by Adobe to represent single-page vector drawings in EPS and PDF. As a general rule, use a full point after a shortening that only exists in writing (e.g. etc.) but not for a shortening that is used in speech (e.g. rhino). In general, a full form is as acceptable as a shortened form, but there are exceptions e.g. etc. should be used over et cetera. Uncommon, non-obvious shortenings should be explained or linked on first use on a page. One general exception to this rule deals with our strong preference for natural disambiguation. Many acronyms are used for several things; naming a page with the full name helps to avoid clashes. Acronyms are abbreviations formed, usually, from the initial letters of words in a phrase.

Trim size is the final size of a printed project after it’s been trimmed. The trim size is guided by the crop marks that are on a printed sheet. Similar to cropping, close-cropping refers to cutting out a specific element from an image. This is mainly done for headshots if you wish to use a different color background. A pixel is the smallest basic unit of color on a computer that makes up images.

You don't need to worry about layout, composition, negative space, and readability with this ready-to-use magazine template. The InDesign magazine template features a clear layout, structured files, and vector graphics for your next magazine. Now that you know the fundamental design terminology for your work as a designer, you might be looking for a reliable source of assets for your projects.

In shorthand notes, headlines, or newspaper titles where space is a concern. Stair floor plan symbols include a series of parallel lines and an arrow that indicates which direction is “up” based on which level you’re looking at. As is the case with everything else in the floor plan, stairs are drawn from a top-down, 2D perspective and look like a set of connected rectangles. However, effective blueprints often require a lot of information in a limited amount of space. Floor plan symbols and abbreviations help remodelers, designers, and builders do just that, while also making them easy to read. In graphic design terminology, you’ll quickly learn to arrange elements by the level of importance.

Sans serif fonts are also used as body copy but most predominantly on screen as they don’t have small details that can be difficult to render. Tint refers to a hue with added white to lighten it and make it paler. The tint can range anywhere from a slightly lighter color all the way to completely white, with barely any color. Hue is a way to describe a pure color without tint or shade (added white or black). For instance, any color on the color wheel is a hue (blue, yellow). If the opacity is set to 100%, it means the object is solid.

Here, I provide just a few principles you can apply in using abbreviations and acronyms, and in the next section I offer a table of some of the forms most commonly used by student writers. There are floor plan symbols for every kind of door available — from pocket doors to double doors — each aimed at creating a visual representation of their form and function. Done right, floor plans quickly communicate the basic layout of the property, how it’s oriented, and how the different rooms and structural elements work together.
